Well, my subject line pretty much says it all.  I have this pre-conceived notion that people who have the excess skin removed do better at keeping off the weight..  anybody have any thoughts or experiences with this.  Please don't attack me, It's just a weird theory I have ...

I  lost  over  200 lbs  and  have  not  had  any  skin  removed .. My  anv  will  be  9  years in Oct and  I  have  remained with a  BMI of 20 ... The  surgery is  a tool  for  me  and to  remain  at  goal  for  me  I  have  to  make  good  choices  each  day  ..  I  made  a  whole  life style  change  with  mine .. My  thoughts  would  be  if  the  person was  not  committed  to  a  life  style  change  with  the  skin  removed or  not  they  would  go  back  to  old  ways  and  gain  it  back .. Theses  are  only  my  thoughts on  it .. If  Skin  removal  is  part  of  your  whole  plan and  your  taking  care  of  your  self  as  far  as  diet  you  should  be  successful ..  I  hope  the  best  for  you on  this  journey ..

Interesting thought.... For me the answer is YES! I remember one day after I had lost all my weight and I was following a young woman into a restaurant who was a little chubby and wearing shorts. I looked at her with "chubby envy" thinking I remember when I had chubby filled out legs. She looked adorable and I hated the excess skin I had dripping off all my body. I thought having "chubby envy" was not going to help me keep my weight off. I also remember one day sitting in a room on a very hot day and an old woman took off her sweater and was wearing a sleeveless top and again I thought .... wow, that woman is wearing sleeveless and I hated my arms with the skin hanging and wouldn't wear sleeveless.

Not liking my thin body with hanging skin was a red flag to me that I may not keep off my weight. I'm happy to say that 6 years after losing 100+ lbs. I have kept my weight off. I can't say that I love my scars, but I like them more than I did my hanging skin. For an older woman (61) I think I look awesome!

Thanks for the interesting question.

As someone who lost 120lbs total and has had skin removed, and plastics kept if off for three years AND regained 40lbs in my fourth year I'd have to say that it's discipline and lifestyle change that helps you keep it off. I allowed old habits to sneak back in and BOOM weight gain.

When I lost the weight, I became very unhappy with my body, and at times, I started to feel, what is all this sacrifice for-to look like this? Now, after plastics, I love my body, for the first time in many, many years. I feel more motivated to stay on track.

I'm not sure there is a corlation but I've had plastics and remain below goal 8 1/2 years out. I paid cash for both though and I'm diligent in watching my weight.
